This encaustic carved tile was created from a macro photograph of an enormous pod that emerged from a hill near our farm, landing in a fencerow and discovered, with delight, on a daily walk. As I carved through the thickly layered wax over photo printed onto paper, I enjoyed carving lines into thickly layered and fused wax with lines that abstracted the forms, edge to edge, then colored them with powdered pigment to further reinterpret what I saw in the imagery. Getting lost in the details of creating brings me great joy and reminds me to look beyond what may first be seen, connecting to the beauty that surrounds. This is a 6 x 6 in encaustic piece adhered to a circular wooden disc, mounted and ready to hang in your sacred space.
