Steeping in reflections about motherhood, I did the coloring on this new wing, yesterday… as I laid down layer after layer of iridescent blue and purple hues, I connected to the energy of a dear mama friend who shares my love of this end of the color spectrum.  I felt gratitude for the inside, small and perhaps inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but precious in their linking, none the less.  This wing honors the bonds we hold dear as we miss those we love… what meaning or energy do purples and blues have for you

The evocative wings are created from beeswax-layered photography, details carved into the thickly-clouded wax surface to bring the wing back to life before being sculpted into expressive new form and colored with powdered pigment.  They are inspired by the process of metamorphosis— a process which repeats itself many times over the course of our lives, offering endless opportunities for change. The Metamorphosis Series celebrates the life force present in each of us as we challenge ourselves to become more fully alive, a prominent theme in this unprecedented time of change.
