"Metamorphosis, Fifty-four"

$125.00

My earliest memory of the color purple was the violets that scattered the fields at the bottom of our hill on my daily walk to kindergarten.  I could not wait for the magical return of spring when they would reappear, their magnetic energy calling for my feet to stop and head to bend down to study their delicate stems and lush petals and to breathe in their fresh faint scent.  Unable to resist gathering a handful to bring home to my mother, the color still reminds me of connection and love and gratitude.  What colors fill your earliest memories?

The evocative wings are created from beeswax-layered photography, details carved into the thickly-clouded wax surface to bring the wing back to life before being sculpted into expressive new form and colored with powdered pigment.  They are inspired by the process of metamorphosis— a process which repeats itself many times over the course of our lives, offering endless opportunities for change. The Metamorphosis Series celebrates the life force present in each of us as we challenge ourselves to become more fully alive, a prominent theme in this unprecedented time of change.
