$125.00

This butterfly wing finds refuge inside the glass globe, perfect for resting on a desk, shelf, or by your favorite chair or chosen special spot. Each wing can be removed from the globe and held in your hand. I think when we can touch artwork— even hold it in our hands— we are more connected to the energy of the work and can find our own meaning that comes from this tactile experience.

Each wing began with photographing a real butterfly or moth remnant, as it is important for me to experience the organic being with my own eyes, which enables me to more fully capture the details and bring them to life in the sculpting of the 2-dimensional form. After printing onto textile, I layer with many layers of encaustic medium (beeswax and resin) which are fused between every layer with heat, carve detail across the surface, sculpt to shape, and color with powdered pigment before coming to rest inside the globes. Although the many steps involved in each piece are quite labor-intensive, it gives me time to connect with each piece and transmit my own energy into that of the butterfly or moth which will live on through the work . Such a privilege to bring out the beauty in nature and collaborate to metamorphosize!
