This sculpture orginated from a macro photograph of a nautilus shell at a local nature preserve in Kentucky.  It was printed onto kozo paper that was then transformed with colored pencil, layered with at least 12 layers of encaustic medium, cut into new shape, sculpted into 3-dimensional form, and further colored with powdered pigment.  The simplicity of the unfurling shape reminds me of the power of opening, both to our inner selves, and to being receptive to what others have to offer us when we allow ourselves to experience them fully.
