This piece was created with macro photography of the first buds of spring, which had very detailed hand-coloring with colored pencil, were fused into the panel after being made into pods consisting of many layers of fused beeswax medium, further sculpted, and then fused into the background.

There is 1/4" of beeswax medium in this background, in which I hand-carved intricate organic patterns to hold the emerging buds, and then applied color through the use of powdered pigment.  The lines carved into the wax remind me of woodcuts, which feels appropriate to the buds of the tree.  There is much luminescence in this piece, as well as a sense of movement as the buds show their process of unfolding.
